The Dying Earth eBook Jack Vance Reviews
The Dying Earth Books by Jack Vance are some of my favorite stories ever. He does NOT use an archaic form of language as another reviewer opined. He merely describes a fantasy world set in the far future by using terms created especially for this imagined setting, such as Tolkien or Mervyn Peake used to do. In any event, this collection of all Vance's tales set on the Dying Earth is worth the price of admission and so much more. Cugel the Clever, Ulan Dhor, Rihalto, Prince Kandive the Golden, Mazirian, Iucounu...all these characters will stick in your mind long aftrer you've read about them, never to be forgotten. And that's not even mentioning the monsters. Buy this and experience one of the greatest fantasy worlds ever conceived by one of the greatest science fantasy writers ever.
Jack Vance makes an archaic use of language to create a world of past glory, which up to a degree is fine but very soon becomes a bit tiresome to read.
Cugel the clever and Rhialto the marvellous are classic characters of the Jack Vance style, and if you like Tschaï or other Vance's series, you will like those short stories...
